It seems that they were more concerned about the general phone style each character had. Miranda is the obvious choice for a blackberry, Samantha is as smooth as the iPhone, and Carrie will stop using pay phones when they pry them off the streets.

i don't know if it's the case, but i feel like SATC has always intentionally not been at the forefront of technology, but instead chose to be that way w/ fashion. it's really not surprising that Miranda has an 'old' BB, since clothes are the focus for these women.
