Front Page: Hillary and Obama Meet, Zimbabwe Halts Opposition, Bush Overstated Iraq

  • Hillary and Obama Meet: After fooling the entire press corps, Obama held a secret meeting with Clinton last night in Washington DC. Obama was scheduled to board the campaign plane after a rally in Virginia, and gave the press the slip, staying off the plane, and on the way to Washington. They met in a secret "third party" location and according to aides, “Senator Clinton and Senator Obama met tonight and had a productive discussion about the important work that needs to be done to succeed in November.” Clinton is planning to endorse Mr. Obama tomorrow at a farewell rally with her supporters in Washington.
  • Zimbabwe Halts Opposition: After detaining opposition candidate Morgan Tsvangirai for the second time in as many days, Zimbabwe's authorities have canceled several opposition rallies ahead of the June 27 presidential election run-off. The opposition party said they'd received a police letter that saying that "several future public rallies" were to be banned because of security fears, effectively silencing the only method the party has to communicate with supporters.
  • Bush Overstated Iraq: In a 170-page Senate committee report released yesterday, Senate Democrats and some Republicans concluded that President Bush and his aides built the public case for war against Iraq by exaggerating available intelligence on Saddam Hussein’s links to al Qaeda. The report includes five years of investigations by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence into the use, abuse and faulty assessments of intelligence leading to the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. Senator Rockefeller, chair of the intelligence panel said, “The president and his advisers undertook a relentless public campaign in the aftermath of the attacks to use the war against al Qaeda as a justification for overthrowing Saddam Hussein," while a top Republican calls the report a “waste of committee time and resources.”

CNN had this camera posted outside hillary's house last night forever and ever trying to catch a glimpse of this meeting - it was lame. it made me long for the days when things would just happen and we'd read about them in the paper the next day. too much speculation.

LOL The news channels are going to be so disappointed that they don't have this crazy drama to follow anymore. I WILL be glued to my tv set tomorrow though. You best believe it!

I'm sure they'll find SOMETHING to sensationalize to keep them busy.

I barely even remember the days when cameras weren't around 24/7 to catch every detail of this crap.

Oh to have been a fly on the wall during that meeting...

YY I watched the same coverage on Anderson Cooper last night. Wicked lame. Especially when they found out they were camped outside the wrong place and that the meeting wasn't actually at her house. They had been talking all night about how gracious BO was to meet her at her home and then they looked like fools. I got a laugh.

Even when they aren't campaigning, the candidate find ways to entertain us! That is so funny.

Can you imagine though? How do you launch into a meeting like that? What do you say when you see the other person? Awk.ward.

I was also thinking about Hillary this morning, and how after 17 months this is the last day she's going to be running for president. I can't even imagine how sad she must be. She worked the hardest of all of the, um, not-winners. I mean Mitt's been kicking back for months.

I know Citizen. I am sad for her, but I bet part of her is relieved too. She still has made history, and it's not like she's done. We all know better than that. I wonder what she's going to say tomorrow?!!?

Ah, such good words to live by.

Also, HarmonyFrance, I'm assuming that pic is of you, but if you ask me there's not much of a difference between *you* and that last pic of Kate Winslet. For serious, girl. Eye-wink

I personally don't see anything wrong with them having a meeting just the two of them. The media should be invited to everything that happens. This was a meeting between two people in a living room. It needed to be a private conversation.

they are going to have to report on celebrity news again since the campaign is national now. and i'm glad congress has admitted what the rest of us have known for years. of course they overstated the Iraqi threat. we've been bombing them since clinton was in office. no way we didn't know what they were up to.
