Happy Hour: Ozeki Hana Awaka Sparkling Sake

To me, Summer months are meant for bubbly. After a warm day, it's relaxing to have a glass of something cool, chilled, and sparkling. Usually I reach for an inexpensive Prosecco or sparkling rosé, but recently I tried something a little more unusual.

At a little sushi restaurant in Japantown, I saw a sign advertising "Sparkling Flower." The sparkling flower was actually called Hana Awaka, and it was a delicious sparkling sake. The flyer declared that it would "bring your taste buds alive with bursting bubbles," and it actually did. The flavor was light and sweeter than most sakes. The bubbles lent a refreshing bite. The best part was that it was only $8 a bottle, and that meant more for everyone!

Have you ever had sparkling sake? Do you think it would be something you'd try?

I've never even had regular sake! Smiling Since it is served chilled, I would try it. For some reason, I just can't do red wine and other beverages that are served at room temp.

Oh awesome. I'm flying into SFO in a week and J-Town (the food court) is my first stop after the plane lands. I'll keep an eye out for the "Sparkling Flower" sign.

Trader Joe's has sparkling sake too and it's delicious. I think it's about $6 a bottle.

I'd definitely try it. And that SERIOUSLY is an adorable picture of the pug in the pirate hat. I wish I could get my Airedale to wear one.

So funny that you're featuring this! I've been ordering it at my favorite sushi place since they got it in. I love it! It's light and refreshing.

I bought a bottle of Trader Joe's sparkling sake last time I was in Atlanta, but I have not tried it yet.

fuzzles, not all sake is served hot. I personally prefer the sake that is specially meant to be served chilled. Those tend to have fruit undertones. I have never had sparkling Sake, but can't wait to try it!! Smiling

So I went to my local Asian market, but the liquor store didn't have sparkling sake. When I asked the lady, she gave me a funny look and possibly a bit offended! LOL Off to Trader Joe's!
