That's tough. My current bf wasn't really into dogs when we met (but didn't dislike them) and now the two of them are pretty cute together. Myko has totally grown on him.
I have dated guys that Myko disliked (some acted like they liked him and some didn't). Those guys always turned out not to be so great for me. So, if my dog doesn't like you, I'm not into you, either

No way! I would actually be quite distrustful of ANYONE who would tell me that they didn't like animals.

No! My dog is my baby and if my significant other didn't like her, why bother? She's a big part of my life and shares a lot with me, including my bed. Luckily for me, my SO loves her and sometimes babies her more than I do! When I first met him, he wasn't a huge fan of dogs, but now he gets a bit jealous when she gives me way more attention than him.

it depends why they didn't like animals...some reasons are able to be excused (childhood animal bite, allergies, etc.)

I think there is something off about people that do not like animals. I am a dog person so if someone did love my dig than it would over.

My sweet Puppy was the judge of any guy that I dated. When they came to pick me up she would go bananas barking at them. I never went on more than a couple of dates with those guys. I know she could tell they were worthless. Then I brought my future husband over. She looooved him. I tell him all the time how lucky he is that Puppy liked him.

No way! My fiance just rescued a bunny and was horrified to learn it had been fed dog food. It's a good sign of character when men can like and care for animals and aren't afraid to admit it! He's my hero!

i agree with the other posters. there really is something off about people who don't like animals. i guess i don't get it...i don't know that i would really have anything in common with a person like that, animals are a huge part of my life.

I agree with pretty much everyone here - I don't trust people who don't like animals. It shows there is a deeper issue IMHO

I just couldn't do it! I love animals and I know that I want to have them in my home throughout my life. Someone who doesn't want animals around them just isn't an option for a serious relationship.

NO. I'm married of course, but if I weren't I would only date vegetarian animal-lovers. Treating animals morally is literally my number one value in life. It's my religion, it's my political party, it's everything. How could I share my life with someone who couldn't understand that?

absolutely not, my guy has to enjoy animals AND kids. my dog has a crush on my current boyfriend, she whimpers when he comes over to my parents' house and vies for every morsel of his attention. my pets are much more than pets, they've been constant companions through Crohn's disease, rape, depression, and deaths of loved ones. I can't date someone who doesn't respect that.

I have a great friend that hates animals and that's fine. Pets aren't for everyone. But I think it would be too difficult to be in a relationship with someone who didn't like my pet. Luckily I don't have to consider this because my guy loves dogs.

My boyfriend doesn't hate them, but I think he's had some bad experiences with the dogs his family has owned, so he is wary about owning them himself.

He had a little white dog that had to be put down, and his mom will occasionally ask him if he misses the dog. Nope, he says he doesn't miss her. Not one bit.

Then we'll watch TV, and there will be a little white dog, and he will say "ooh it's a (dog's name)-dog!" and watch the telly a bit longer than when there are plain old boring dogs.

I couldn't date a person who didn't like animals, it just wouldn't work. I LOVE animals - all types and I have a mini zoo in my house so if they didn't like animals they'd have to go.

I seem to be the only one here, but I really could care less whether someone is an "animal person". Pets aren't for everyone. That may be because I don't have any pets, though. Sometimes I think I would like a kitty of my own (I LOVE cats) but I know as of now I don't have enough time to care for one. Its possible I would change my tune when/if I get a pet of my own.

I hadn't even thought about this until my sister married a man who didn't like animals. And when he was adamantly against them getting a cat, I knew I could never marry someone who didn't love animals as much as I do! And I found him - my fiance has promised me that the first thing we do when we move into our own place will be to get a kitten - and maybe a puppy too!

I think there can be a compromise, but I don't think I would want to give up pets all together for a guy. If they were allergic to cats, then I would suggest we get a dog, or vice versa.

Animals is a pretty broad term-there are many different types of animals. However, my feeling is there is something important lacking in someone who doesn't like *any* animals...

My instant reaction was "No," and then I saw a couple of comments and thought of a bit of a qualification. I couldn't date someone who didn't like my animals. A good friend of mine has never been a fan of cats, due to some childhood experiences, but she loves ours; I could be okay with something like that. Active dislike of animals, however -- still a no.

The phrase "Love me, Love my Cat" comes to mind. My Tonkinese Neko is my pride and joy, and he HATED my ex. HATED him with a passion! To say he foresaw what was best for me, and we ended up breaking up. With my fiance, he sleeps with him more than he sleeps me with me! (The cat, that is) Neko loves him to pieces! Animal lovers always seem to have something about them that attracts me to them, and I could never date or marry anyone who didn't like my cat, or that my cat didn't like!

i actually do date someone who's not a big animal guy. but he's willing to put it aside because i'm a huge dog lover...now that's love!
