Yesterday I changed my hair colour from dyeing it dark dark brown to going back to a sort of light brown/blonde with highlights. I know that it is a lot closer to my natural colour than the dark dark but I keep having to look at it in the mirror because I really can't get used to it! Was really expensive so I hope that I do get used to it and like it eventually! Haven't seen any of my friends yet so will wait and see what they think

I never made a scene at a salon, but I have a horror story from my childhood. I went with my best friend and her mom to the mall when I was 10, and her mom had an appointment to get her hair done at a salon there. When the stylist was done my friend's mom got mad because she said the stylist cut her hair too short on purpose to make her look ugly, so she grabbed a pair of scissors and said she was going to cut the stylists hair. Well she never did get to that stylist, and I never went out with my friend and her drama queen mother anywhere again.

A little bit - it was about 3 years ago, and my best friend took me to her hairdresser. I was just supposed to get a trim and layers, and she said she would tell the stylist what to do for me. When it was all over, my previously waist-length hair just barely brushed my shoulders, and I wanted to scream, cry, and kill something all at the same time. It was truly and utterly horrible, and I've spent the intervening time growing it all back...

It wasn't because of bad service, though. It was the day of my Senior Prom and my mom called to tell me she couldn't find my date's boutineirre.I was already having a stressful day, so that just topped it off.

i was living in southwest China and had explained very carefully to the hair dresser the colors i wanted in my hair. 7 bleach-and-dye sessions later (all right after each other over the course of like 6 hours!!!), my hair was on the brink of death and I was finally in tears!

When I was younger, my mom took me to a salon once where the "stylist" was talking on the phone while cutting my hair! I was horrified. Needless to say, I never went back there. EVER.

I only cried once and that was when the stylist at JC Penney shaved a spot on my head completely bald. I was about seven and my mom got the stylist fired because of how atrocious my hair was.

Oh yes. I am verrry particular about hair color. Being a blonde is really hard work because blonde is the easiest color to screw up. It can come out white, yellow, and other nasty colors. Because of this, I am very selective about my stylists. So anyways, I thought that my then stylist was great and she had done my highlights well before but boy was I in for a shock. I came home from college SOOOO excited to get my hair done and fix the almost 1 and a half inches of brown hair that had grown in since I had been up at school. So I was all ready to be blonde again when to my horror, she had left the highlights on WAY too long. It came out like Christina Aguilera white, which may look good on her but is terribleee on me. So she realized it was too light so she tried toning it. It turned out like an orangey light brown. It was so awful. I couldn't help but cry. She felt awful and tried to fix it with highlights which only made it look like a pumpkin. So I went crying to my now stylist who is a family friend and she fixed it (the best that it could possibly get fixed) and I've been beautifully blonde ever since. It's honestly just the color that, if done wrong, will make me crazy. I would be happy with a lot of hair cuts. But color is different.

I almost did, the time that I was in Taiwan and the hairstylist started out trying to give me long, shaggy layers and ended up razoring my hair into, for lack of a better word, a she-mullet. And also convinced me to let him give me highlights, which turned out to be the cockroachy brownish-orange color I REALLY, REALLY HATE. Don't let someone who's dyed his goatee the pale green of toothpaste cut your hair. Seriously.

Nope, I've done a good tongue lashing though. Stylists (hairdressers as we used to say) are the hardest to find. Hubby has cut my hair a couple of times a lot better than local stylists.

I had a so-so cut on Friday, then returned to the salon this morning to have it fixed. It's better in some ways, but my hair is now uneven, and it's about two inches shorter than I wanted, and — bwaaaaaah. I am depressed.

And then had the audacity to put his hand on my forehead--to hold my very short bangs down--to say "well, see, it's not so bad when you do this." That's when tears fell, as I told him "but I'm not going to walk around like that!" Never went back...and I've been scared ever since to cut bangs again.

I feel so bad for some of the ladies on here, I figure I may share my own horror story - courtesy of my mom. So I was like...9? 10? When my situation occurred. My mum's BFF and her daughter came over, and I went to take a nap, and the girl cut a chunk of my hair out while I slept! The next day my mum saw, and I had no idea what happened, and my mum - thinking I actually LET the girl do this to me - beat the crap out of me. It wasn't even THAT bad, until mum decided to take a razor - the kind for your LEGS - and from the nape of my neck, shaved my hair off up two inches. I was mortified. And then, I had to wear pigtails. Even teachers made fun of me. Once she realized I was telling the truth, she felt like a jackass, and never let that girl come over again. Arg, I'm welling up at the thought of those pigtails...*shudder*

SarahPuffy's story almost made me cry. Um, I once had highlights left on too long at an Aveda salon, because I asked to be squeezed into an appointment and got my regular stylist's junior stylist. She left the highlights in to long and my hair turned a grey/white. The master stylist sorta fixed it, but that took forever to do. I was terrified it would fall out, but it turned out okay... albeit ashy. I tried to pass it off like I chose Debbie Harry's hair. I had to wear so much makeup, because I looked so washed out! I have even done my own highlights with much success!

No, but I have been damn near close to clawing the hairdressers eyes out. I had onced asked for a TRIM and fringe. She hacked off no less than 3 inches and got the fringe totally wrong- way too short so I looked ridiculous. To top it off, the cut cost near £50! It didnt even occur to me to go back and get it fixed there.....but then, I don't think I would risk it!

I cried because the person didn't listen to what I wanted ... and swindled me out of $30 for a haircut that took an hour but didn't look any different from when I walked in. But on a brighter note, I have cried before because my haircut was so drastic, that I didn't even recognize myself. It was AWESOME.

Last time I got a trim I cried all the way home. I held my tears and displeasure until I got to my car. I was so depressed I considered going back to get extensions the following day. A trim left my hair about 4 inches shorter than when I went in. It's the same guy that I've trusted my hair with for 4 years. He gets a warning when I go in a week and if he messes up again...Goodbye! I can't be depressed for two weeks until it grows out a bit again.

Yes. Totally. I asked for bangs that like swooped across my forehead and she cut me like literally less than one inch long bangs. It was terrible and took my months to grow out!

I had a haircut over the weekend and although I feel the cut and color are fabulous, the styling was less than desirable. I feel like I'm rocking mom hair in a major way, but I'm hoping that soon as I wash it I'll look like myself again. It is such a disappointment when you go to the salon thinking that you'll look fabulous after a professional does your hair, but you end up reaching for your hair tie to put it up in a ponytail or something. What a waste of a blow-dry.

Reading all of these stories is actually making me feel much better. Not that everyone's suffering is making me happy - but it's nice to know that I'm not alone. I can NOT, for the life of me, find a decent hairdresser. I'll explain exactly what I want, I'll bring in photos, and I never, ever leave the salon happy. I've been going to the same stylist on and off for 5 or 6 years. My biggest complaint is that she plays it too safe. She never thins my hair out enough and it's always puffy and shapeless within a week. I also never like how she styles it and I usually end up running home to re-wash and dry it immediately. I left her twice. The first time, the new guy, instead of trimming my bangs, hacked them until they were less than an inch long. They looked awful. The second time I left her, I ended up with a fabulous haircut, but the second time I went back to my new stylist, she didn't remember me and ended up giving me a horrible cut (plus, she razored it so I had split ends in less than a week). So I'm back to my regular old girl. She's not horrible, but I'm not happy with her. Like I said, she never cuts enough off and I have to go back every 6-8 weeks for a trim. If she'd just thin it out enough that I could wait 3-4 months, I'd be so happy!

When I was 15 or so my mom dropped me off at the salon while she ran some errands. I showed my stylist a picture of a style I liked and she started. The cut was fine but when she dried my hair she curled it with the round brush when I wanted it straightened. My hair is really thick and poofy if you don't know how to control it. I got up from the chair ran to the bathroom and called my mom to come get me. No tears but I panicked when I looked in the mirror because I now had Martha Stewart/"mom" hair! Not appropriate for a 15 year old. Then another customer knocked on the bathroom door (my hiding place) so I had to go sit in the lobby. I was close to a breakdown when my mom arrived. The next few times I went to that stylist I didn't let her style it afterward.

The closest I came was when I did some hair modeling for a Vidal Sassoon show. They did something truly sh*teous to my hair but it was only temporary. They cut it into a pixie-do two days later that I loved.

yes - i have. there was a time a couple years ago that i was thinking about going from blonde to brunette so i had the colorist bring my hair down a few shades, and well...i was crying and miserable. then my mom told me that i looked ugly - so i had to turn around and go back. it was AWFUL!

Once I had the best haircut of my life. Finally, this stylist did everything I told her to and I looked fabulous. Two months later I went back to the same salon, but it had been remodeled and there were new staff. Whereas before there were all these young, hip asian girls working, now there were a hodgepodge of mommy looking stylists. I went for it anyway, and as she was cutting my hair I just kept trying to remind her of what I wanted. She was either delusional or not listening, so finally I shut up just to keep her from doing further damage. She made me look like a twelve year old goody two shoes with crooked hair. About half an hour after the hack job I came back in tears, demanding my money back so that I could go somewhere else and undo the damage. The store manager actually agreed that it looked horrible and I think I am the only person who has ever gotten their money back. The experience was so traumatic that I ceased having my hair cut for almost a year afterward. |
The last two haircuts were criers.
I have, but it wasn't a bad cut, it was just really drastic. I had light brown hair that was to my lower back, then I got about 10 inches taken off, then colored it dark brown with a purple tint! It was basically black with a slight purple sheen to it - since I was in college, I figured this was one of the last times I could do it and get away with it - and just barely shoulder-length. I had a couple silent tears in the chair because I was just SHOCKED, but I did end up loving it after I stopped wondering "what did I do???"
