10 of The Best Jumper Dresses

Wow it really is winter isn't it? I can't seem to leave the house without at least five tops and two pairs of socks, not to mention countless layers on my legs! My current uniform (minus the layers for warmth) is a big jumper dress, leggings and over the knee boots. Despite looking like an extra from a pantomime, I find this is the most effective way to stop shivering and to keep warm!

To show my love for the jumper dress I have rounded up ten of the best currently available to you. There are lots on offer from £25 to £520. In my experience, the more you pay the longer the knitwear will last. Cheap knitwear is great for a quick fix but you risk bobbling and holes emerging sooner than you might like.

Typically, my favourite is one of the more expensive; thegrey, blue and purple jumper by Freda (£440). However, I also really like the Jumper Dress by Ivana Helsinki at Topshop (£55). See below for more examples.

Get Fab UK's Autumn Look

Eagle-eye readers will have noticed that the Sugar girls have had an autumn/winter make over. Across the whole network you will now see the girls wearing slightly darker colours for the cooler months. Pop UK has gone for a purple autumn look with a gorgeous handbag and shoots and Fab US has opted for tailored skinny trousers and sandals.

I love Fab UK's (ahem, I mean my) autumn look so I wanted to show you how you could copy the very chic style. Firstly, take note of the current penchant for tartan as the ensemble includes a plaid skirt worn backwards to make the bow the main focus. Next, the look includes an edgy printed t-shirt mixed with a classically tailored tuxedo blazer. Finally, no outfit is complete without key heels and a handbag, and who better to provide these than Burberry and YSL.

Taking influence from Kate Bosworth and Miranda Kerr, the shoes are part of Burberry Prorsum's new season line. What do you think of the look?

A Sneak Peek at Preen for Net a Porter

Preen is one of the most exciting British labels producing edgy yet wearable designs season on season. Their Spring 2009 show exposed the bare bones of fashion whilst staying true to the sexy, body-con designs.

For Cruise 2009 Preen have designed a capsule collection of six dresses especially for Net a Porter, featuring their designs in key colours including hot pink and cobalt blue. Here are two of the dresses from the line, the other three are similar in shape but including metallic elements and asymmetric hemlines.

The pink 'Power Dress' has already been tipped as a favourite by editors. Gwyneth Paltrow has been spotted in a similar style but in black at the Iron Man premiere earlier this year. They are perfect party dresses and will be available online from 22nd October. Prices range from £540.

Trend Alert: Autumn Tones

This Autumn fashion is taking inspiration from the seasonal shades by drawing from a palette of orange, red and gold. It featured on the catwalk at Miu Miu, Donna Karan, Tibi and Bottega Veneta and definitely conjures up images of snuggling in front of a warm fire on a cool evening. When attempting this trend it's important to not simply consider colour but also texture (as seen on the right at Donna Karan).

Texture can be created by mixing fabrics particularly knitwear. It's worth trying on a few pieces in different shades of orange and red because they are tricky colours to wear. If your skin tone is dark then opt for a bright shade and if you skin is pale, try a warmer colour like the Bottega Veneta dress above (middle).

If you're missing your Kate Moss fix as she continues to holiday (reportedly in Ibiza) then you'll be excited to hear that her sixth collection for Topshop has a release date! The Autumn/Winter line is due to arrive in store and online on Tuesday 9th September. Ms Moss put the finishing touches to the collection in mid-July. Exact details are yet to be revealed but maybe we could expect some leather trousers, a touch of lace and maybe even some loafers! What do you think the line will include?

Celia Birtwell's long running collaboration with Topshop is one of the most successful High Street/designer collaborations out there. Using her iconic vintage prints, she creates beautiful pieces for the store which look like they should have a designer price tag. I personally am a huge fan of both Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell so am always excited to hear that another of her collections is hitting stores. This Autumn her line is even better with cut-out detail and huge flapping sleeves. Prices range from £50 for a blouse to £100 for a jumpsuit.

Today we caught up with My-wardrobe.com buyer Joanne Watkinson to find out what she recommends for the colder months.

First up the all important it-bag. Joanne recommends Anya Hindmarch's Perry, "This season texture is a key feature, and the mix of cord and leather in this bag is a perfect combination." She also loves the D&G Dolce&Gabbana Lily bag in black (£695).
