While her Bride Wars red carpet stunt was debatable, Anne Hathaway hit the fashion mark at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards. Leave it to the transformed actress to take the LBD to the next level of sizzling hotness. She looks insanely sleek wearing Balmain's black corset dress and furry black Christian Louboutin platform pumps.

The semisheer, asymmetrical lace inset adds sultriness to her dress and I love her natural makeup palette. Being it was a Cartier-sponsored event, Anne appropriately accessorized in an abundance of Cartier diamond-encrusted jewels. Her look is sexy, sophisticated, yet unique.

Bride Wars: Trite and Joyless Movies about weddings can be so fun and girly and sweet. It's easy to get swept up in the sparkly rings and the hunt for the perfect dresses and the cream-colored towering cakes. Plus, at the heart of Bride Wars there's also this relationship between two BFFs, and I'm all for movies with an emphasis on the strength of female friendship. But this film doesn't do right by either the fun bridal aspect or the "girlfriend" aspect and comes up seeming empty and kinda sad.

The Critics Pick Heath, Anne, Milk and Slumdog Millionaire

First the people chose then last night the critics awarded an A-list crowd of actors, writers and directors with their favorites. Jason Alexander opened the event asking Brad and Angelina to adopt him before Ben Stiller took home the first award of the night for Tropic Thunder as the Best Comedy. The most moving moment was when Heath Ledger won and director Chris Nolan accepted his award with a standing ovation from the crowd. Anne Hathaway tied with Meryl Streep for best actress and in her speech she excitedly rambled in a heartfelt way, ending with a part about her father protecting her and proving that there are good, strong, loving men out there. Milk and Slumdog Millionaire were big winners with multiple wins while Richard Gere received the special Joel Siegel award for his offscreen efforts. Movies about weddings can be so fun and girly and sweet. It's easy to get swept up in the sparkly rings and the hunt for the perfect dresses and the cream-colored towering cakes. Plus, at the heart of Bride Wars there's also this relationship between two BFFs and I'm all for movies with an emphasis on the strength of female friendship. But this film doesn't do right by either the fun bridal aspect or the "girlfriend" aspect and comes up seeming empty and kinda sad.

Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Liv (Kate Hudson) are the bestest of friends who spent much time as children dreaming of (and role-playing) their weddings. Now that they're adults (Liv a harsh, high-powered businesswoman and Emma the sensitive low-paid schoolteacher), they plan to be each other's maid of honor and as luck would have it, they both get engaged around the same time. But when they meet with wedding planner extraordinaire Marion St. Claire (Candice Bergen), an administrative hiccup causes the two weddings to be booked at the Plaza Hotel on the same date. When neither one will move her wedding, the two brides-to-be turn against each other, trying to sabotage the other's wedding, and their friendship suffers. For more of my thoughts on all this,

Things got a little more fancy between Wednesday and Thursday in LA, between the People's Choice Awards and last night's Critics' Choice Awards. The red carpet had a few more gowns and a bit more glamour last night all leading up to Sunday's Golden Globe Awards — don't forget to fill out your ballot! Of course Brad and Angelina turned the most heads with their head to toe beauty and cozy posing. Dakota Fanning made it three for three on award show dress choices while Penelope Cruz always sets the bar high. Chris "Ludacris" Bridges was looking pretty good himself. Anne Hathaway looked happy to be there and as she walked away with a statue that smile stayed with her — check out all the winners here. Be sure to vote on all the fashion, and beauty polls. It may have been just another Thursday night most places, but the couture was out as award season ramped up last night giving us a taste of what we'll have this weekend and when Oscars roll around.

Last night the 2009 Critics Choice Awards took place in Los Angeles celebrating the stars of the silver screen. Many of Hollywood's biggest names got dressed up and hit the red carpet. One of the most emerging trends that I've noticed (beyond credit crunch supporting floor sweeping gowns) is the knee skimming dress.

From Kristin Scott Thomas in Yves Saint Laurent to Anne Hathaway in Gianfranco Ferré the red carpet was awash with modestly dressed ladies. Eva Longoria and Amy Adams joined the trend revealing just the right amount of flesh around the clavicles and calves. What do you think of this elegant style?

Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner at the Critics' Choice Awards in LA last night, receiving five awards. Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep tied in the Best Actress category, and Sean Penn won Best Actor for Milk. Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner Thursday at the Critics' Choice Awards, taking home the trophy for Best Picture as well as several other awards. The film won five awards in all, including trophies for its director, star, and composer.

Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep tied in the Best Actress category, with Hathaway winning for Rachel Getting Married and Streep for Doubt. On the men's side, Sean Penn won Best Actor for Milk.
