Mayer and Mariah Make Grammy Nominations Into a Party

Last night the Grammy Awards took a new approach to nominations, making it a televised primetime event instead of reading out the nods early in the morning. John Mayer was one of the headliners and he also took home five nominations while Mariah sang and won two. Don't worry, Kanye's name is on the list too. Former Grammy winner Christina Aguilera isn't up for any this year, but she still got all gussied up for the red carpet. Taylor Swift hosted the night, but it was her ex Joe Jonas who may not be your dream guy, but picked up a nod for Best New Artist with the rest of the Jonas Brothers. In the end though, as we all know it was the year of Coldplay and Lil Wayne who led the nominations, check them out here.

Celine Dion is so thoughtful. Here she is making such a ridiculous fool of herself that it saves all the comedians from even trying. Now that is graciousness! When I think of metal, or guitars, or even music, Celine Dion is not the first person to come to mind. And yet, she rules. I think it's the utter obliviousness. (But, my lord, that outfit is tragic.)

Water conservation's been on my mind lately, since my local utility wants residents to cut water use by 19%. It seems like water conservation and rationing is big news all over. In fact, the central coast of Florida is in a drought, and the Palm Beach Post has revealed that the biggest water waster is crooner Celine Dion. While her heart may go on, apparently so does her sprinkler system, showers, and faucets, if her water bill is any indication.

How much water does the Canadian songstress use? Well, enough to fill a bathtub every four minutes, if that's a good visual. In more concrete terms, her Jupiter Island 5.7 acre property uses 6.5 million gallons of water a year — normal water usage is only 120,000 gallons a year. Here's hoping the singer will learn some tips from fellow celeb Leonardo DiCaprio and buy an eco toilet, as well as learn how to turn off that sprinkler system. I'd offer her the suggestion of shaving her legs without the water running, but apparently she's already got that covered.

Carla Bruni isn't the only singer to catch French President Nicolas Sarkozy's eye. The Grand Master of the Legion of Honor presented the supremely talented Celine Dion with the Legion of Honor in Paris. For a celebmama who is used to the center stage, she usually shies away from the shutterbug.

The family looked lovely en route to the poignant event. Celine was exquisite in her frilly frock while husband, René Angélil was a dapper escort. Their son René-Charles Dion Angélil sported white sneakers and long locks adding some rock and roll to his otherwise buttoned–up ensemble. I've heard people snicker at his untamed tresses, but think they complement the lad's proper attire. I'd bet the lil ladies around town think so too.

I don't know if you heard the recent brouhaha over Celine Dion, but some news folks aren't too happy with her? Why, you ask? Because — horror of horrors — our Quebecoise homegirl has leg hair. And it showed up in photographs during her concert. I know, it's inexcusable.

Look, I'm probably never going to be Celine's biggest fan musically, but when a major metropolitan newspaper starts nitpicking her body hair, you can bet I'm on Team Celine. I'm guessing her fans couldn't care less whether she shaves her legs or not; they're just there to experience her overall nuttiness and music. Beyond that, it's 2008 — shouldn't we be beyond tsk-tsking a grown woman for having a little light peach fuzz on her gams?
