Hallmark Rolls Out Gay Wedding Greetings: Tasteful or Tacky?

Hallmark Rolls Out Gay Wedding Greetings: Tasteful or Tacky? Though just a scootch late for the famous nuptials of Ellen and Portia, Hallmark has rolled out a new line of greetings, created for just such an occasion. In response to California ruling gay marriage legal, Hallmark saw a fancy card niche to be filled — one that doesn't involve shiny embossed images of a traditional bride and groom. Despite the fact that most states don't recognize gay marriage (CA and MA are the only two) several others recognize civil commitments, and when there's a ceremony, there's a cause for card. Hallmarks says the decision to offer the greetings was not politically motivated, but rather a response to consumer demand.

Where Do You Stand: Asking Her Parents For Permission to Propose I’ve always thought that when a man knows he wants to propose to his lady, he should ask for her parents' permission. Now I know it’s a tad old-fashioned, but I think what I like about it is the idea that he’s taken the time to contact her family and let them in on this momentous occasion so they can be a part of it from the very beginning. But every family is different, and I know that there are some people who don’t have a relationship with their parents that would call for such formality.

10 Questions to Save on the Guest List: Would You Use Them? The average wedding guest list has 153 names on it, and 45 percent of a couple's wedding budget is spent on the reception venue, meaning this is one situation in which more is not always merrier. CNN published this list of 10 questions to ask about the people on your drafted guest list to aid in trimming it down. The list's author says that a score of 50 percent or below allows you to cross that person off your guest list, those scoring between 50 and 60 percent are moved to a waiting list, and anyone scoring above 60 percent receives an invitation.

Dear Poll: Have You Ever Had a Wedding Hookup? For single guys and gals, weddings have a reputation for matchmaking — even if that match is sometimes for just one night. After all, you're surrounded by friends, love is in the air, and booze and bad dancing are plentiful. It's no wonder that for some wedding guests, the night ends with a little bit of making out or hooking up with a fellow wedding goer.

How-To: Throw a Garden Bridal Shower My lovely sister recently threw me a garden bridal shower. She knew that I wanted a low-key, simple affair that focused on my friends, and with that in mind, she came up with the concept of a garden tea party. This casual affair was a fun, backyard gathering that my sis made elegant with her decorating choices and signature style.

If You Were Asked to Get a Cosmetic Treatment For a Wedding, Would You Do It? Just when you think Bridezillas couldn't get any scarier, the New York Times reports on a gauche new wedding trend: The bridal cosmetic surgery party. Yep, now in addition to spending $300 on a ruffled puce dress, bridesmaids are being asked to have a little Botox, Restylane, and even boob jobs before the big day — and it's not even their big day. “If I were 25 or 26 and getting married, a bracelet, necklace, or matching earrings would be fine,” says a bride-to-be who took her bridesmaids to a medspa.
